One of the recently announced PlayStation 5 exclusives is a blow to the Xbox and Xbox Series X. The last generation of consoles, the “console wars” were quiet. At the time, many took this ceasefire for peace, but it was not. The PS4 is set to become one of the most popular consoles of all time. Meanwhile, the Xbox One’s disastrous start ensured that it was barely in the same stadium, let alone the same playing field. However, towards the end of the console generation, under Phil Spencer, Xbox began. to gain traction, acquiring studios and creating a compelling service in the form of Xbox Game Pass. This generation, the PS5 still beats the Xbox Series X in sales, thanks in part to the momentum of the PS4, but it’s close. As Xbox bridges the gap, the console war has been rekindled. And in this new era, PlayStation has just dealt a blow to Xbox.

At the PlayStation Showcase, PlayStation announced that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is a PS5 exclusive, or at least a timed console exclusive. Obviously at any time you can get an exclusive deal for a Star wars game, it’s a big dub. That said, it’s not just anything Star wars Game. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is widely regarded as one of the best games of all time.

It’s not just about getting an excellent Star wars exclusive however. When DIRTY was released in 2003, via BioWare, it was an Xbox exclusive. It eventually arrived on PC and even later on mobile devices, however, it never made it to PlayStation platforms or any other console. Now it’s being remade from the ground up, and it’s going to debut on PS5, and at the moment it’s unclear how long after release Xbox fans will have to wait to see the RPG on. Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. Either way, that’s a big catch by PlayStation.

What makes the deal even more remarkable is that it was apparently done under the noses of Microsoft, which is investing a ton of money in studio acquisitions and Xbox Game Pass offerings. To some Xbox fans, this offer might not seem like a big deal, but it is. This PlayStation deal is like Xbox grabbing the exclusivity for a Metal Gear Solid Remake.
