New PS5 Firmware Update Seems to Improve Performance of Some Games

PS5 the owners will be well aware of the recent firmware update we have had, and while it has given us many upgrades and fixes regarding the console layout and the ability to finally use the M.2 expansion slot, it also potentially came with an improvement in console performance for what appears to be at least some games for now.

The news comes from extensive testing that Digital Foundry recently underwent as part of its collaboration with Gamers Nexus, where both parties concluded that in fact there was no real difference between the two new models of. PS5. The performance improvement doesn’t come from the new hardware though, but from what is more likely just better optimized software that will potentially only improve from here on out.

That’s not to say that every new firmware update will bring performance improvements to many games across the industry, but at least in the case of Control and Devil May Cry V Special Edition, it seems that the new firmware allows each PS5 run faster, if only slightly.

You can watch the video here where Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter explains the process they went through to come to that conclusion, and ultimately why it wasn’t in the final video for yourself here. It’s the first thing they discuss, so no need to search through the timestamps if you can’t watch the rest of the show.
