A PS5 system update has just landed, bringing improvements to the system according to a brief talk.
The update, listed as version 20.02-02.26.00, only hits around 850MB, so it’s not a huge update, but it is likely to fix some of the startup issues in the console. These include the PS5 download queue bug, for which Sony recently came up with a workaround that does not involve restoring your PS5 to its factory settings, as well as the sound of the coil. that some users report from their console.
While it’s unclear what issues this update is targeting at this time, it should at least help resolve some of the more obvious boot issues that Sony’s console has faced. In fact, this isn’t the first PS5 update Sony released since the console released on November 12 in the US. Another patch, the PS5 Day One Update, which appeared recently, also promised system improvements.
Not that these issues have dampened the momentum for Sony’s console launch. One report claimed that 2.1 and 2.5 million consoles have already been sold, while Jim Ryan claimed that “absolutely everything has been sold”. Demand for both next-gen consoles is currently very high, with Xbox also reporting that it has had its biggest UK launch with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
