New radicals meet for the first time in 22 years

New radicals came together for the first time in 22 years at a virtual event celebrating the inauguration of President Joe Biden today (January 20).

The Los Angeles band is best known for their 1998 single “You Get What You Give”, but they split only months after its release.

Appearing on stage together for the first time in more than two decades, New Radicals took part in the Parade through America show that aired shortly after President Biden was sworn in at the U.S. Capitol.

“When we heard that ‘You Get What You Give’ was a Biden family hymn, we made a commitment if Joe won, we would come together and play our little song – both in memory and in honor of the son. patriot of our new president Beau, ”leader Gregg Alexander said of introducing the performance.

Alexander went on to say that he hoped Biden would be “able to bring our country together again,” adding, “Joe, Kamala – this one is for you.”

Posting the meeting live on Twitter (see above), Biden’s inaugural committee said, “We are honored that the new Radicals have come together for this moment (with one of the [Second Gentleman] Doug Emhoff’s Favorite Songs!) ”

Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, chose “ You Get What You Give ” as his walk song during the 2020 presidential campaign. Speaking about his personal connection to the song, President Biden l ‘ previously described as the “theme song” of her late son Beau.

“Over breakfast Beau would often make me listen to what I thought was his theme song, ‘You Get What You Give’ by the New Radicals,” Biden wrote in his 2018 memoir, Promise me, daddy.

Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and Katy Perry are scheduled to perform on the Celebrate America live later this evening. At the inauguration ceremony, Lady Gaga sang the US national anthem before Jennifer Lopez spoke a mixture of songs.
