We got what the new radicals promised to give.
The group had pledged to come together and play their ’90s anthem “You Get What You Give” if Joe Biden was elected president. And the new radicals kept his word during the virtual “Parade Across America”, which took place after the inauguration on Wednesday.
With singer Gregg Alexander wearing his classic bucket hat and presenting the Pennsylvania song, his band banded together to sing the 1998 hit – more than 20 years after the band broke up.
The song had deep meaning for the new administration. It was an inspiration to Biden’s beloved son Beau during his battle with terminal brain cancer – a fight he lost in 2015. The eye-catching tune was also used. on the campaign trail as intro music for Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband.
And if the New Radicals seemed a bit rusty – and looked a lot older – after more than two decades, it was hard to deny the uplifting spirit of the song, with lyrics such as, “This fucking world could collapse / You ‘It’ll be fine, follow your heart.
The music’s message was carried with a few inspiring words on posters displayed by a diverse group of Americans. He had all the feelings of well-being.
The New Radicals weren’t the only musicians featured in the virtual parade, which was hosted by former “Scandal” president Tony Goldwyn. Andra Day performed her exciting hit “Rise Up”, while DJ Cassidy led a special inaugural edition of her “Pass the Mic” series with Earth, Wind & Fire, Chic’s Nile Rodgers and Kathy Sledge.
The latter two performed the 1979 Sister Sledge classic “We Are Family,” with a crowd of Americans from across the country joining in the fun and singing along with them. It was the kind of festive family affair that brought everyone together in song.
