Back in July XDA developers has discovered new code snippets hinting at a new in-app review feature for the Play Store. The code suggested that this would allow users to leave a review for an app without having to load the Play Store to do so.
Now, Dylan Roussel at 9to5Google discovered an internal demo that shows exactly how this process will work. In a series of screenshots, we see for the first time how much you can submit a review in the future without leaving the application.
This will definitely start with one of those annoying pop-ups that most applications seem to have these days, asking you if you like the app and can view it. However, this new process will make it much less irritating by not forcing you to leave the app and go to the Play Store to quit the exam.
The demo screens show how Google will use a lower overlay to allow you to stay in the app while composing your comment. It includes a section for assigning it a number of stars, a section for typing your comments and a final screen that allows you to cancel the review in case of an error.
9to5Google note that, at least in its infancy, the new system does not seem to indicate to the developer that you have written a review. However, this is not the final version and it could be different at the final launch.
Being harassed to write a review can often be quite annoying. However, if Google manages to streamline the process, users and developers could benefit. The easier and quicker it is to leave critics, the more users will be willing to do so, which could lead to more positive reviews for frequent developers.
