New Sony 35mm F1.8, Light Full Frame Lens

Sony today announced the latest addition to its E-frame full-frame lens series with the introduction of a Wide Angle FE 35mm F1.8 wide-angle lens, model SEL35F18F. This is Sony's 5th 35mm full-frame lens.

The compact size and light weight of the 35 mm full-frame primary film make it a good candidate for street photography or simply for light traveling, while retaining the sense of the premium.

Sony claims that the new lens has a silent auto focus and excellent tracking performance, making it an excellent choice for still images and video recordings. Its small size means it is equally suitable for APS-C enclosures and complete enclosures, offering a focal length equivalent to 52.5 mm.

Main characteristics

  • Large maximum aperture F1.8, weighing only 280 grams and measuring 65.6 mm (diameter) by 73.0 mm (length); this new lens sets a new standard for portability.
  • Intelligent optical construction including an aspherical element to suppress aberrations and provide high resolution on the entire frame of the image. Circular opening with 9 blades allowing a magnificent bokeh.
  • The minimum focusing distance of 0.22m and a maximum magnification of 0.24 times make it easy to access the world of close-up photography.
