In The CW’s Supernatural, many fans dispatched Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins). The ship, known as Destiel, was apparently confirmed as cannon in the series’ 15th and final season when Cas professed his love for Dean.
However, Dean was never shown to be verbally reciprocal to Cas’s proclamation. Because of this, their last moment together is left to interpretation, and it is up to fans to decide whether their relationship is romantic or not. After the series finale aired, a Spanish dub of Cas’s last scene leaked, showing Dean responding to Cas and apparently confirming that Destiel could be hot after all.

In the 18th episode of the final season, “Despair”, Cas experiences a moment of true happiness after declaring his love for Dean. The Destiel senders interpreted this statement as a romantic statement and as confirmation that Cas was in love with Dean.
Due to a deal he made with Empty in a previous season, this happiness sends Cas to the afterlife. Because the void also takes death, Dean’s life is effectively saved with Cas’s declaration of love.
This of course outraged some Supernatural fans, because they felt it had fallen into the Bury Your Gays trope. With this trope, LGBTQ characters are killed on TV and in movies more often than straight characters, and this often happens after an LGBTQ character has finally achieved happiness.
Because of this, Supernatural seemed to confirm Destiel as canon in the worst possible way for the fans. In the series finale, Cas is only mentioned by name and no longer appears, adding more outrage to Destiel’s senders.

The Spanish dub appears to confirm the statement as romantic
In the English version of the episode “Despair”, Dean responds to Cas’s statement with “Don’t do this, Cas”. A leaked version of the episode with a Spanish dub shows Dean responding with “Yo a ti, Cas” which translates to “And me, you, Cas.”
The subtitles on the stage reflect the English script, and the dubbing generally occurs independently without interference from the studio. Still, the leak led fans to use the #TheySilencedThem hashtag on Twitter to express their disappointment with The CW.
Misha Collins has a message for ‘Supernatural’ fans
After Supernatural fans started trending #TheySilencedThem on Twitter, Collins took to Twitter to explain the situation to fans. the Supernatural the actor denied that there was a conspiracy with The CW to deliberately silence one of the Supernatural characters. He also revealed that he does not consider Cas’s death to be part of the Bury Your Gays trope.
“There was no conspiracy within the #SPN network, staff, or cast to minimize or erase the portrayal of the narrative and there was no alternate ending to 15.18. Dean was still too stunned at the time to answer. (Apparently a rogue translator wrote his own dialogue.) ”Collins tweeted.
He continued the thread, writing, “Also, in my opinion, Cas doesn’t play into the ‘bury your gays’ trope. His declaration of love saves Dean, allowing Sam & Dean to save all of humanity. And Cas doesn’t die! He actually continues to rebuild paradise!
After 15 seasons, the series finale Supernatural aired on The CW on November 19.
