A new Star Wars multiplayer arena game is coming to Nintendo Switch. Star Wars: Hunters was revealed during the Nintendo Direct stream in February, and will be free when it releases later this year.
Nintendo’s trailer didn’t reveal much about the game other than its name. The trailer appears to be set on a sandy planet – maybe Tatooine? – in what appeared to be a hidden arena designed for some sort of illicit deal or fight. As the camera walks down the hall, we spot a figure holding lightsabers, a stormtrooper, and a Wookie. Finally, the camera stops on a giant door that opens to reveal a smoky battlefield full of lightsabers and laser fire.
According to the YouTube description of the announcement trailer, Star Wars: Hunters will be a free squad based arena fighting game – which is probably what we saw at the end of the trailer. Based on the logo at the end of the trailer, the game appears to have been developed by Zynga, the developer best known for social games like Farmville.
Star Wars: Hunters does not yet have a firm release date, but is expected to release a little later this year, so we should get more information in the near future. According to the game’s website, it will also be available on iOS and Android alongside Switch.
