New trailer convinces fans a ‘Spin City’ star is the penguin, not Colin Farrell

The batman Director Matt Reeves recently gave DC Extended Universe fans a preview of the upcoming film during his DC Fandome panel. However, when fans got their first look at the footage, many were convinced Colin Farrell was not playing the penguin. Instead, many believed a certain ’90s ABC sitcom star Spin City played the iconic villain.

Matt Reeves says ‘the Batman’ is a work in progress

Reeves admitted that they had only shot 25% of the film before production ceased in March due to the pandemic. Fortunately, he always shared a teaser for the highly anticipated film. Reeves explained that it was impossible that he “could not show part of the film”

As Deadline points out, the trailer is very dark and gives fans their first look at Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. The two minute teaser has a ’70s tone’ like Todd Phillips’ Joker.

“It’s not an origin tale, but you meet it in the early days,” Reeves revealed. “A lot of other (movie) stories have shown that he had to master his fear and himself to become Batman.”

In his film, Reeves says that they “met in the midst of this criminological experiment”. He added that viewers will watch Batman “make mistakes”. Reeves explained that he didn’t have the effect he wanted to have. It was then that the “murders begin to occur”.

In one scene from the trailer, a gang leader asks Pattinson’s Batman, “Damn, are you supposed to be?” He replies: “I am avenger.”

‘The Batman’ features a talented cast with iconic villains

In the teaser, Pattinson’s Batman is visibly younger and different. Fans have previously described his take on the superhero as “emo.” Jeffrey Wright takes on the role of James Gordon. There will also be a lot of iconic villains. Reeves says Paul Dano’s version of the Riddler is something fans have never seen before.

“It just emerges,” Reeves said. “Ditto for Alfred and Colin Farrell, Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin.

He added that Selina “is not Catwoman yet.” As fans know, this role will be played by Zoe Kravitz.

The only detail from the trailer that really gets fans talking on social media is Farrell’s Penguin. The role has not been addressed onscreen since 1992 Batman Returns. Of course, fans could never forget the dramatic version of Danny Devito.

Farrell’s transformation is so surprising that the Horrible bosses the star is unrecognizable. According to Too Fab, some fans didn’t think it was Farrell at all. The most popular reaction on Twitter was from fans who thought that Spin City star and legendary comedian Richard Kind played The Penguin.

Colin Farrell as the Penguin could be Richard Kind’s twin

There are only seconds left when Farrell appears in the new trailer for The batman. However, these few images imply that the makeup artist was trying to make Farrell look exactly like Kind. It’s really strange.

It does make sense, however, as the barrel is clear against the penguin’s backstory. Cobblepot becomes his ugly alter-ego because he’s been laughed at all his life for his looks. In close-up, it looks like Farrell’s penguin has heavy scars, but how it happened is unclear.

It could be due to a birth defect or a childhood accident. It’s also possible that Reeves’ vision for The Penguin has a bit of a twist. Maybe he was once stunningly handsome like Farrell, but suffered some sort of accident as an adult. It probably changed her appearance.

Fans will have to wait over a year to find out the truth about Colin Farrell’s Penguin. The batman is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
