New trailers: reunion of Fresh Prince, Breach, Black Beauty, Happiest Season and more

TET, you have to work on Sundays, but all you want to do is keep gorging on Season 4 of The crown. I watched the first two episodes and can’t decide who I like the most: Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher or Emma Corrin as Diana. Josh O’Connor’s Prince Charles continues to be a fascinating not quite anti-hero. Can’t wait to dig for more (literal) palace intrigue.

In the meantime, I warned you a few weeks ago that we’re slipping into the holiday movie szn, and among the trailers for this week is a holiday romance comedy starring Kristen Stewart, as well as a put update to a classic YA novel, and a Bruce-Willis-kicks-space-alien-ass offering. Plus the cast of the Fresh prince are back together. Versatility ftw!

happiest season

I feel like this movie could easily become trapped in musical comedy snaps without strong performances from its stars, so when I saw Dan Levy in the cast I was immediately reassured. Abby (Kristen Stewart) and Harper (Mackenzie Davis) are a loving couple who are planning to spend the holidays with Harper’s family, except – plot twist – she hasn’t been out for them yet. “Everyone’s secrets from this party come out” is the slogan of the movie and hopefully it adds something new to the romcom genre. The happiest season debuts Nov. 25 on Hulu.

The fresh prince of the Bel-Air reunion

Ah nostalgia can push me over the edge here. I was right in the middle of the target audience for the original series of The fresh prince in the early 1990s and seeing the cast together, all adults, warms my cold Gen-X heart. Will Smith, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali and the rest of the cast – including the original Aunt Viv, guys !! – remember the late James Avery, who played Will’s Uncle Phil. The fresh prince of the Bel-Air reunion hits HBO Max on November 19.

Inside Pixar

A new series on Disney Plus takes a look at the people who work at Pixar, the studio responsible for cute animated films that make parents of young children cry (looking at you, The world of Nemo, Upside down, and Toy story). Is it a little selfish of Disney, which owns Pixar, to launch a “glimpse into the freshness of this business” on its Disney Plus channel? Hey, maybe. I will always watch, and hope to find out who exactly is responsible for my parenting trauma once and for all. Inside Pixar is now streaming.

Violation

A plague has wiped out most of Earth’s population (eek) and 300,000 survivors, including Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane, are heading to the “New Earth” in a very safe spaceship where nothing goes wrong and no one is will turn into a hideous and slobbering monster space. Haha I’m kidding, sure, and since this is a Bruce Willis movie, you know there will be gunshots and witty banter sprinkled throughout the chaos. I have a strong Extraterrestrials vibe from the trailer but there’s some black goo involved which seems to be a callback The X-Files. Violation is in select theaters and streaming on demand starting December 18.

Black beauty

Apparently, this adaptation of Anna Sewell’s 1877 novel of the same name adds some new elements and while not everyone likes the new plot developments (check the comments on the video), I’m actually a little intrigued. The book was an autobiography of a horse – told from his perspective – that described some of the cruelty to animals that prevailed in Sewell’s day. In the new film, Black Beauty is an untamed and traumatized signet ring, voiced by Kate Winslet, who hooks up with Jo, a teenage girl who mourns her family. Black beauty arrives at Disney Plus on November 27.
