Tony Stark's Iron Man is no longer in the picture thanks to his sacrifice at the end of Avengers: End of the game, who will fulfill this role of heroic mentor to Peter Parker? Happy Hogan seems to mean well, but it seems that Peter needs someone with whom he can understand a little more than that. (In addition, Happy will be occupied by Aunt May.) This will not be the old S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Nick Fury, because, as we learned during our visit on the set of this film, these two characters do not always agree on how the world should work.
This leaves Mysterio, who seems to have entered a completely different world. This is logical on paper: he is a character of the same type as his older brother and has experience as a hero in its own right and super powerful. And in his conversation with Peter, he gives the impression that he may have also lost another friend fighting crime in his universe.
But is Mysterio really what he says he is? Executive producer Eric Hauserman Carroll told us on the set that "similar to what we did with Mordo Strange doctorwe wanted to give [Mysterio and Peter] a relationship that makes that when you get to do something different with Mysterio, you really feel like betrayal. So, even though it's a nasty in comics, maybe this version of Mysterio is really in the right way … for now, anyway.
And then there is this humorous little joke at the end, with Flash Thompson (obsessed with Spidey) who panics at the thought that Happy Hogan is working for Spider-Man and Happy who is trying to make the reality of their relationship of crystalline work. It looks like they will need a new means of transportation. Oh, and another noticeable thing about this sequence: it confirms that MJ certainly knows Peter's secret identity in this movie because he does not wear his mask when she hugs him on that deck.
