More than three weeks after the election and a week after the Trump campaign overturned its own lawsuit in the state, two Republican-led lawsuits aim to undermine Michigan’s decisive vote for presidential candidate Joe Biden against President Donald Trump.
The first, filed directly with the Michigan Supreme Court as a motion for extraordinary writs and declaratory measures, comes from Angelic Johnson and Linda Lee Tarver, both members of Black Voices for Trump represented by Conservative Thomas More Society.
They sued Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Council of State Solicitors Chair Jeanette Bradshaw, alleging a wide range of improprieties.
Much of the lawsuit picks up on the Trump campaign’s allegations in the failed Michigan lawsuits. The largest block of votes they question is around 355,392 “unsolicited ballots” which they believe are inappropriate.

Benson sent mail ballot requests, but not ballots, to voters. It is the local clerks, not the secretary of state, who mail the postal ballots when requested. The plaintiffs argue that Benson’s sending unsolicited postal voting requests was also illegal.
The lawsuit argues that the state legislature should choose which state voters to send to the electoral college, there should be a full investigation into “illegal votes” and “legal votes” by a “special master”, or for a delay in sending the election election by Whitmer State Collegiate to Congress.
The legislature has no role in the state voter selection process. The Board of State Canvassers certified the election results, declaring Biden the winner of Michigan’s presidential election, and under Michigan electoral law, the governor formally sets up the voters list.
In Michigan, the election was not near. Biden won the presidential race by 154,188 votes. That’s more than 14 times the 10,674 votes Trump won in the state in the 2016 election.
Meanwhile, a lawsuit of six Republicans in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, alleges “massive electoral fraud” and calls for the election to be quashed or for the election to be recertified in favor of Trump instead of Biden. . It was filed against Benson, Whitmer and the Board of State Canvassers.
A range of charges include violating the constitution’s equal protection clause for Republican election observers denied “meaningful access,” computer system issues that “uniformly” benefited Biden over Trump, and “Several other violations of the Michigan Election Code that caused or facilitated the counting of tens of thousands of ineligible, illegal or duplicate ballots. “
The plaintiffs are represented by a legal team including Sidney Powell, a lawyer formerly affiliated with, and later disowned by, the Trump campaign. She is best known nationally for peddling conspiracy theories.
The lawsuits come after several others that seek to undermine or overturn Michigan’s election results:
– The Trump campaign lost a lawsuit against the state trying to prevent vote counting.
– The Trump campaign and several Republicans have filed a federal complaint to stop certification of election results in Michigan. The results were then certified.
– A federal lawsuit seeks to defeat the votes of the counties of Ingham, Wayne and Washtenaw. The four voters behind the lawsuit dropped it soon after it was filed.
– Two TCF Center challengers, Johnson and Sarah Stoddard, have filed a lawsuit demanding an independent investigation, a recount or an order to quash the election and hold another. This costume was also discontinued.
–A judge rejected a request by two Republican observers to prevent Michigan’s election results from being certified.
