New World Reportedly Caused GPU Problems For Some Gamers Again

There have been a new round of reports on Amazon’s New World MMO causing graphics cards to crash or fail altogether. A similar issue occurred during the New World beta where the RTX 3090s crashed, possibly due to the settings menu having an uncapped frame rate. The problem seemed to be limited to EVGA cards, which were quickly replaced.

As reported by PC Gamer, it appears that the EVGA RTX 3090 FTW Ultra card and the Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti are having issues, in some cases. These reports, along with crashes for some graphics cards, have appeared on Reddit and the New World forums. PowerGPU also posted a tweet stating that it has started receiving reports of failed GPUs.

When asked to comment, an Amazon representative said he did not have additional information on the issue,

Winfuture (via PC Gamer) reported that they have had issues with a Gigabyte RTX 3090 due to various in-game processes that could put additional strain on the card. These spikes cause maximum GPUs and, in the case of Winfuture, block the graphics card. One of the areas where this is happening seems to be the settings menu. Every time a graphics setting is changed, the game does a sharp refresh and reloads the whole scene again, which would have put extra strain on the GPU.

It is important to note that the EVGA cards replaced during beta had manufacturing issues, which was not present in all cards. When asked to comment on the new cases, an Amazon representative said he did not have additional information on the issue and recalled EVGA’s previous statement.

Amazon’s new world got off to a good start, however, it had server issues and long queues. Amazon said it hit 1 million players at launch and is working to increase server capacity.
