Lawyers working for the Democratic-dominated chamber said on Thursday that they informed Mr Cuomo’s lawyer that “the Assembly will soon be considering possible articles of impeachment against your client,” according to the chairman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee , Charles Lavine, who oversees the impeachment process.

The impeachment inquiry began in March after Mr. Cuomo was charged with sexually harassing several women on his staff and federal prosecutors in Brooklyn opened an investigation into state policies regarding Covid-19 in nursing homes.

Mr Cuomo has repeatedly denied touching anyone inappropriately and said he was cooperating with the federal investigation. He said the state nursing home policies were designed to preserve hospital capacity during the height of the coronavirus pandemic and were in line with federal recommendations at the time.

A spokesperson for the Democratic governor did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the assembly deadline.
