A future dad was killed in New York on Sunday after the device he was building for his upcoming gender reveal party exploded, police said.
The explosion occurred at a house in Liberty, New York, killing Christopher Pekny, 28, and injuring his brother Michael Pekny, 27, who was taken to Garnet Medical Center in Middletown, according to a statement from Major James C. Michael from New York. State Police.
Another brother called the explosion a “freak accident”.

“The scariest freak accident I have ever imagined,” the 34-year-old told The New York Times.
The injured brother has been listed in stable condition, according to the report.
The family are believed to own Robin Hood Diner, a restaurant in New York’s Catskills neighborhood. The family took to Facebook to thank followers for their “overwhelming display of love and support that you have all shown.”

Authorities said the incident was still under investigation by state police and the demining unit.
Earlier this month, a 26-year-old Michigan man died after being struck by shrapnel from an explosive cannon at a baby shower in the state, police said.
