New York Giants roster changes: Devonta Freeman waived, David Sills re-signed

The New York Giants announced two roster updates on Thursday.

Running back Devonta Freeman has been called off.

Freeman was signed after Saquon Barkley suffered his season-ending ACL injury. Freeman spent six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Giants. He’s a two-time Pro Bowler but hasn’t found much success in New York City, rushing for just 172 yards and one touchdown in five games.

He was placed on IR after suffering ankle and hamstring injuries in November. He last played in the Giants’ Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wide receiver David Sills was signed with a renegotiated contract. The thresholds were activated from the reserve / COVID-19 list but remain on the injured reserve.

Sills was to become a free agent of exclusive rights. He looked set to be an active member of the Giants offense after a strenuous summer, but a broken foot injury brought him on IR. He gets another chance.

While in West Virginia, Sills recorded 132 receptions for 2,097 yards and 35 touchdowns.
