EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – In a surprise move, New York Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder was ruled inactive on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Crowder was activated from the reserve / COVID-19 roster and returned to training on Thursday and said on Friday he expected to play in the Jets’ home opener.
He has suffered from a persistent groin injury since training camp, although he said the injury would not have kept him from playing last week. It was the positive COVID-19 test that kept him out of the opening game against the Carolina Panthers.
In another notable move from the wide receiver, Denzel Mims – a second-round pick in the 2020 draft – was a good scratch on Sunday. It wasn’t a surprise, given his lack of training reps and his place on the depth board, but it does raise questions about Mims’ position with the squad.
The Jets go with Corey Davis, rookie Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios as their top three receivers, with Keelan Cole and Jeff Smith in reserve.
Another healthy scratch is running back La’Mical Perine, a 2020 fourth-round pick. Only one of the nine picks in the 2020 Draft is active for the game: cornerback Bryce Hall.
