PITTSBURGH – The New York Mets put star shortstop Francisco Lindor on the 10-day injury list on Saturday with a strained right slant.
Lindor was injured in Friday night’s 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh, grimacing after bouncing off second base in the fifth inning. The four-time All-Star took a few steps out of the batter’s box, but then headed for the Mets dugout on the first base side.
The Mets have recalled infielder Travis Blankenhorn from Triple-A Syracuse to take Lindor’s place.
In his first season with New York after being acquired in a January trade with Cleveland, Lindor reached 0.228 with 11 home runs and eight interceptions in 88 games. He agreed to a 10-year, $ 341 million contract just before opening day.
Beset by a long list of injuries, the Mets, leaders of the National League of the East, have just recovered the third goal JD Davis of the 60-day IL on Friday. His return meant that each of the projected New York regulars were available for the first time in months.
Blankenhorn hit .270 with four homers in 13 games for Syracuse. He appeared in 11 games for the Mets earlier this season, going 1-for-11.
The Mets are Blankenhorn’s fourth organization this season. He also spent time in the Minnesota, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Seattle farming systems.
