Mets interim general manager Zack Scott was put on administrative leave two days after his DWI arrest in New York City, the team said Thursday.
Scott will be on leave “until further notice,” the Mets said, adding that team president Sandy Alderson would take on the responsibilities of general manager.
Scott, 44, was arrested at around 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday in the suburb of White Plains, New York, after police found him asleep driving his SUV at a traffic light and determined that he was intoxicated. Police Captain James Spencer said Scott refused a breathalyzer test.
Scott pleaded not guilty to the DWI charge in a court appearance Thursday morning.
The Mets said Wednesday Scott participated in a fundraiser for the team’s Amazin ‘Mets Foundation at owner Steve Cohen’s home in Connecticut on Monday night, which was also attended by players. Scott left at the end of the event around 8:30 p.m. or 9 p.m.
Scott was promoted to acting chief executive in January after Jared Porter was fired following an ESPN report that he sent sexually explicit and uninvited text messages and images to a reporter in 2016 while ‘he worked for the Chicago Cubs.
Before joining the Mets as an assistant general manager in December, Scott spent 17 seasons with the Boston Red Sox organization.
Alderson was general manager of the Mets from 2010 to 2018. He returned to the team as president after the sale of the Mets to Cohen.
