NEW YORK – The New York Rangers have acquired the rights to forward free agent Barclay Goodrow from back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay on Saturday in a pair of moves ahead of the roster freeze of the NHL for the Seattle expansion draft.

New York sent a 2022 seventh-round pick to the Lightning for Goodrow, one of the key additions that has helped Tampa Bay overcome the playoff bump and win the Cup each of the past two seasons.

The Rangers now have exclusive trading rights with Goodrow until the free agent market opens on July 28.

While new chairman and general manager Chris Drury had his first chance to put his stamp on the roster, New York also sent forward Brett Howden to Vegas for a fourth round and defenseman Nick DeSimone in 2022.

Vegas was equally active, trading Cody Glass in Nashville for Nolan Patrick, who the Predators acquired from Philadelphia in a trade for defenseman Ryan Ellis.
