The New York Times took three days to print a correction of a major error in its reporting on Georgia’s recount process.
After saying on Friday that only “several hundred” of uncounted ballots were found in Georgia’s presidential race recount, The Times waited Monday to correct it to “over 5,000”. The article appeared on the front page of Saturday’s edition and the correction was not published until Tuesday.
Georgia’s previously unrecorded ballots were mostly found in Fayette and Floyd counties and broke heavily for President Donald Trump. The recount confirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia, but it reduced his margin of victory from around 14,000 to 12,260, a reduction of more than 10%.

Journalist Jeryl Bier noted the Times delayed correction on Twitter and called it “inexcusably sloppy” and “the kind of thing that fuels conspiracy and biased speech.” Trump has repeatedly criticized the Times and other mainstream media for having a liberal bias.
Biden became the first Democrat to wear Georgia in a presidential race since Bill Clinton in 1992. He also recaptured Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin from Trump’s column in 2016 on his way to capture the White House .
