Newly signed DE Raiders Takkarist McKinley starts on injured reserve

Three teams gave up the Takkarist McKinley within a week. The former Falcons board rusher was claimed first by the Bengals, then by the 49ers, then by the Raiders. The Bengals and 49ers gave him up for physical failure, and yet the Raiders have always claimed him.

McKinley has a groin injury that caused him to fail both of his physical exams in Cincinnati and San Francisco (or Santa Clara, so to speak). Knowing this, the Raiders were still interested, as they had been from the start, but had to wait their turn in the derogation order.

As much as the Raiders would like the East Bay (Richmond) native to be available now, they are willing to be patient and take the risk that once the former first-round pick returns to his health, he can be a asset in the long run as they make a run to the playoffs.

The Bengals and 49ers can’t wait until McKinley is healthy. They need him now if they are to have any hope of making a difference this season, and the odds are slim being that the two teams have two and three wins respectively.

Not only are the Raiders 6-4, but they have a more favorable streak at home, which makes their playoff chances very good. Enough so that they realize they can afford to pay McKinley to sit on the shelf for a few weeks.
