Newsom’s children lack vaccine despite warrant, report says

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a requirement last week for all eligible students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, even if his own daughter has yet to receive the vaccine.

Newsom announced on October 1 that all students and school staff must be vaccinated by January 2022 – the country’s first statewide mandate. The order includes some exemptions – including one based on personal beliefs – but Newsom has yet to clarify the criteria for those exemptions.

However, he revealed that his own daughter, 12, had yet to receive the vaccine, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“The governor’s daughter was only 12,” Newsom spokeswoman Erin Mellon told Fox News. “She has an appointment to get the vaccine in a few days.”

Newsom’s daughter turned 12 on September 19, by Newsom’s Twitter, and is the oldest of Newsom’s four children. The FDA and CDC recommended in May 2021 that the shot was safe for children between the ages of 12 and 15.

Newsom first told The Times that her daughter had “a bunch of other pictures” to take first.

The CDC notes that at the age of 11 to 12, a child should routinely receive the meningococcal vaccine (one dose), the HPV vaccine (two doses), the Tdap vaccine (one dose) and the vaccine. against the flu. The data suggests, however, that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe to be given at the same time as other vaccines.

“There is always a struggle to get to where we need to be,” Newsom said of efforts to contain the pandemic. “And that means we have to do more, and we have to do better.”

Students requesting an exemption will not be allowed to register for in-person classes on campus, and Newsom’s children have been taking in-person classes at a private school since October 2020, Politico reported.

Two of Newsom’s children – who have not been identified – have tested positive for COVID-19, but Newsom, his wife and the other two children have tested negative. Newsom did not say her daughter was infected when asked about plans to vaccinate her.

Newsom has already moved away from its own policies, such as its infamous dining experience at The French Laundry, a three-Michelin-starred Napa Valley restaurant, while most services remained under severe restrictions.

He also removed his children from mask-optional summer camp after at least one was pictured without a mask, The Washington Post reported. The state had required masks for all children under 12 in public places because they are not eligible for the vaccine.
