Mt Ruapehu records one of its best-attended ski seasons, with a 50 percent increase in visitors during the school holidays last year.

More than 80,000 skiers and snowboarders have enjoyed the tracks of Whakapapa and Tūroa over the last two weeks.

It is estimated that another 25,000 also benefited from the snow.

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts general manager, Ross Copland, said that snow and weather conditions on the North Island's slopes have been key to this increase in visitors during the school holidays.
