The Wellington Airport in New Zealand began preliminary demolition work before upgrading NZ $ 15 million (US $ 10 million) from the airport's main terminal.
Upgrading covers approximately 6,000m² (65,000 sq. Ft.) The work will be done progressively over the next 12 months.
Matt Clarke, commercial director of Wellington Airport, said: The modernization will turn the main airport terminal into an open and light space where travelers can intuitively find their way to their flights.
The upgrade will also offer opportunities for emerging Wellington brands and established retailers to create and serve restaurants for the six million domestic and international passengers that visit the Wellington area each year.

The preliminary demolition work is already underway which involves the redistribution of two large air conditioning units from the main level of the main terminal into the airport ceiling.
This project is part of a number of important works underway at the Wellington Airport, including a new multi-level parking and transport hub and a 134-room four-star hotel that will be operated by Rydges. open in 2018.
