It's official! Hawaii has made history with the signing of Bill SB2571 which bans chemical sunscreens that harm coral reefs and delicate marine ecosystems. This is the first such ban in the country and serves as an example of what it means to defend the environment. Governor David Ige signed the bill on July 3, 2018 and will come into effect on January 1, 2021.

The new law will require many brands of sunscreens such as Coppertone, Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic to rethink their formulas. Although many brands have decided to get rid of the harmful chemicals in question, especially oxybenzone and octinoxate, there are still many brands – more than 3,500 – that have not still changed.

According to researchers, up to 14,000 tons of sunscreen are found each year in the world's coral reefs. Not only do oxybenzone and octinoxate discolour coral, but a study by Haereticus Environmental Laboratory found that chemicals caused deformities, DNA damage and ultimately death in coral populations. For fish, chemicals are known to be endocrine disruptors responsible for reproductive diseases, embryonic deformity and feminization of male fish.

Craig Downs, forensic ecotoxicologist and executive director of Haereticus Environmental Laboratory, told CNN: "Oxybenzone is really toxic to the juvenile form of corals … and this is consistent with the dogma of toxicology that juveniles are usually a thousand times more sensitive to the toxic effects of a chemical than a parent. These chemicals disrupt the symbiotic relationship between coral and algae … the coral larva envelops itself in its own skeleton, where it falls to the bottom of the sea and dies. "Knowing this, imagine what it does to the human body!

While these chemicals filter and absorb UV light, blocking the sun's radiation, they are absorbed by the skin and can cause external conditions like Acne, rashes and more.Internal, the damage is worse because they are known to be hormonal and endocrine disruptors, and they are related to the reduction in the number of spermatozoa and endometriosis, in addition, they can cause tissue and thyroid function damage, as well as allergic reactions.

We are pleased to see that steps are being taken to protect animals, humans and animals. Environment hidden in not only sunscreens but beauty products across the board.Bring sunscreen is essential to protect against UV rays causing cancer and pre aging mature, but it's important to do your homework.
