Falling snow hits the southern Alpine passes

MetService warned that an active depression moving north over the lower part of the South Island was producing periods of heavy rains toward the south and the west of the country . The South Island, and the snow above 500 meters in the extreme south.

The front was to continue north Sunday night, according to the forecaster, before weakening Monday before moving slowly over central New Zealand.

It was expected that around 5 am Monday, with 4 to 8 centimeters accumulating over existing snowfall on the road above 800m.

For Arthur's Pass (SH73), the snow was announced until 4am. At the top of the Lindis Pass (SH8), 5 to 8 cm of snow can settle on the road above 700 m, with smaller amounts up to 500 m, from Sunday to Sunday around 10 h.

5 to 10 cm of snow were expected to settle on the road above 600 m and less at 500 m

Milford Road (SH94) SH 94 was closed between Lower Hollyford Road intersection and the Chasm Stream Stream bridge. It is expected that the snow falls until 2am Monday, with 15 to 20 cm more expected on the road above 700m, with smaller amounts up to 500m, MetService has declared.
