A teenager appeared in court, charged with the deadly murder of Cyrus Alexis Alupis, a 41-year-old man from the west coast.

Alupis was found stabbed at Cowper St, Greymouth, around 2 am on Monday.

A 17-year-old man appeared in Greymouth District Court charged with murder Monday afternoon. He was remanded in custody until Tuesday, August 21st.

Alupis' daughter-in-law, Shiann Green, said Stuff that he was " the best dad I could ask for ".

Alupis She met Green's mother when Shiann was 5 years old and had been a father to her ever since, she says.

"He had a good personality, always happy, always making jokes, just a happy and loving person, did that."

Green, who lives in Nelson, said that Alupis has seven other children. She believed that he was doing an excavation course and had recently bought a house on which to build.
