Air New Zealand President Tony Carter will retire next year and will be replaced by the current director, Dame Therese Walsh.
The airline said Carter had already told council that 2019 would be his last year as president. His departure could facilitate relations with the government

Walsh has been on the board for two years.
"Important, it is very customer-centric and intimately understands the role of iconic brands to enhance our country's success," said Carter

Walsh said she was "humble" to have been unanimously elected president of Air New Zealand.
"I have had the privilege of working with an outstanding president, board, executive director, and executive team at Air New Zealand over the past two years.
Executive Director Christopher Luxon praised his selection.
"I am happy to work more closely with Dame Thérèse, who will be an excellent president, and I am sure she will challenge and support the executive so that our airline is even more successful," said Luxon
