Clarke Gayford has published photos never seen before. Premier Jacinda Ardern and the rest of the country heard Winston Peters announce that New Zealand First was forming a coalition with the Labor Party.
Gayford posted two photos on Twitter Friday, showing Ardern and Grant Robertson in "Before and After Shots".
In the first, Robertson can not even look at a talk show from Peters. Ardern is tense, worried. In the second, the elected prime minister of the country and her future finance minister are jubilant.
Ardern seems about to cry with joy and Robertson is ecstatic. It's in their faces and their body language.

Both photos are a few seconds apart, but the power in the country has evolved over this period.

The tension goes up …. who will choose Winston?
Gayford posted the images with the following caption: "A year ago today [Winston Peters] made a bold call that changed everything. We watched TV like everyone else except I pointed the camera in the other direction. Here is a before and after that has never been seen.
"What an amazing year it was, what year to come in. Welcome to the ride."
Ardern spoke of this moment during a speech in September and discussed it in detail.

Winston Peters announces that NZ First will form a coalition government with the Labor Party.
She recalled what happened when the new government was created.
She had to wait to know Peters's decision at the same time as the rest of the country.
However, Ardern revealed during her speech that she knew what it was before saying it – the answer was in things that he was already saying.
"The night I spent the night in my office and waited as the entire nation did, the current Deputy Prime Minister must make an announcement with which New Zealand First would form a government.

"I stand near the couch in the opposition living room while watching TV.There is a group of deputies and staff around me.You can hear on TV the speech that Deputy Prime Minister Minister is doing, because the camera remains focused on my face.
"There is a sudden moment of realization in my expression. This is not the time when the government is announced, it is before. That's when Winston talks about things that I believe in too.
"I smile and realize that we will have the opportunity to change everything."
