The Kumho Tire V8 Australian Touring Car Series will be renamed the K3 Series of Super3 Tires in 2019.
A formal agreement between the series and Supercars will allow the category to officially position itself as the third-ranked Supercars, behind the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship and the Dunlop Super2 Series.
The Super3 series, designed for specification Supercars prior to 2013, will continue to be managed independently by existing category managers Rob and Liam Curkpatrick.
Along with the news, a five-lap Super3 2019 calendar has been released, which includes the Phillip Island, Winton, Queensland Raceway and Tailem Bends Supercars events.
The Super3 season will end with a unique appearance with the Shannons Nationals in Sandown in September.

Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said the addition of the Super3 series was part of Supercars' vision to develop a direct path for young drivers leading the Virgin Australia Supercars championship.

The Kumho Super3 series was founded in 2008 as the V8 Touring Cars, allowing vehicles that are no longer eligible for the Super2 series to continue running at the national level.
The series has evolved to become a fertile ground for young drivers, mechanics and engineers to learn Supercars before moving on to Dunlop Super 2.
It also remains a place of competition for privateers and celebrate the heritage of the sport with older cars with original or significant colors.
The Brad Jones Racing and Matt Stone Racing field cars in all three levels of Supercars competition, while Image Racing, MW Motorsport and several other field cars are in Super2 and Super3.
A total of 57 events and 171 series races have been held since the start of the category at Mallala in 2008.
