Pixel Rumor 3a: all we know so far [Video]

[ad_1]

While the rumors about the Pixel 3a and 3a XL are unleashed, the next midrange camera will offer about the same experience as the excellent pixels 3 and 3 XL, but without the price associated with it.

The Google Pixel line brings together a number of powerful, simple elements and arguably one of the best android phones on the market. And although they are not the most expensive handsets on the market, they are certainly not the cheapest. That said, they offer an experience that is not quite available elsewhere.

The affordability is clearly what Google has in reserve for its upcoming Pixel 3a and 3a XL handsets. This could allow Google to tackle the iPhone XR and Samsung Galaxy S10e handsets, which have been hugely popular thanks to lower entry cost, but with an experience substantially identical to that of the most expensive flagship models.

With the right prices, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL could very easily become the most popular handsets in the Pixel range to date. Let's break down the rumors and speculations of Pixel 3a to give you a more accurate picture of what to expect.

Release date and availability

Recent Google snippets and teasers indicate that we will see Pixels 3a and 3a XL for the first time officially at I / O 2019. The exact date given by Google is May 7th.

We will probably see the handsets on stage during an official presentation, but we do not know immediately how this launch will take place.

In terms of availability, both devices will be launched via T-Mobile alongside the Pixels 3 and 3 XL for the first time in the United States. There were rumors that these new devices would be exclusive to Verizon, but that seems to be wrong.

Characteristics

Modest handsets, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL will come with midrange hardware. This means that the internal components are slightly less robust than those found on high-end Pixel devices launched last year. So we're waiting internally for a Snapdragon 670 chipset, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 3,000mAh battery on the 3a model.

The charge will be via USB-C, but it is not clear if the wireless fast charge will be supported. However, a fast charge of 18 W via USB-C is included. If the device comes with the expected FHD + display, it should help improve battery life, given its relatively small size for a 2019 handset.

Camera

Fortunately, the camera module, the sensor and the software that accompanies it will match those of Pixel 3. Expect all the commands and familiar functions. This means that Night Sight, Top Shot and, as a result, the camera's performance will simply not be exceeded at the price level that Google will set at pixels 3a and 3a XL.

This means a 12 megapixel solitary sensor with 1.4 micron pixels and an aperture of f / 1.8. This is often an area in which brands seek to reduce their costs. On paper at least, it's a flagship level camera, but in an affordable shell. Our own source even indicates that the camera produces an image quality identical to that of Pixel 3, but that the camera application shows slightly lower performance than all things considered.

Google Pixel 3a Camera

You can see a simplified camera experience on the Galaxy S10e and the iPhone XR (although the XR has a better camera than the XS and XS Max). By integrating the Google mass-market camera into the cheaper handset, it is quite feasible to conquer a larger share of the market.

If you were wondering about the selfie camera, this one will come in an 8 megapixel flavor. This selfie camera will also come with a wide-angle lens for an extra field of view. We do not know if it will be as wide as the standard Pixel 3.

Features of the design and the device

Materials 3a and 3a XL will both be made from much cheaper materials than those of Pixels 3 and 3 XL. This means that a monocoque design essentially made of plastic, with a two-color style similar to the one we saw on the Pixels 3 and 3 XL.

Pixel 3a XL two-tone

Although the design is not entirely inspired, it still stands out among a space cluttered with unibody designs thanks to its two-tone rear. I am intrigued to see how the device feels in the hand, as I mentioned in my review of Pixel 3, it is the most comfortable handset on the market, no question.

There is no doubt that the plastic body will help improve overall durability. The plastic could have also allowed the inclusion of the Qi wireless charging in both models – but we learned that there would be no wireless charging on either model. It's a shame because the compatibility with the support Pixel would be good, even if it looks like we will certainly not see it.

At the back you will also notice a fingerprint reader. While many other builders can not resist the appeal of an integrated player, Google is sticking to a physical option. For starters, they are faster and simply easier to use. My personal experiences with embedded readers have been mixed to say the least.

Pixel 3a headset port

The 3a and 3a XL will include a feature you will not find in the most expensive siblings. Both devices will include the headphone port as standard. This means that the audio wired through the headphone jack is back in the menu for those who do not wish to invest in Bluetooth or in the life of a dongle.

Regarding the colors, the pixels 3a and 3a XL are divided into three distinct options. A white, a black and a kind of purple color that will probably replace the model "Not Pink" that we saw on the pixels 3 and 3 XL.

Active Edge returns cheaper devices, which means you can tap the sides of pixels 3 and 3a XL to activate the Google Assistant. This inclusion will involve all additional accessibility features such as the ability to reject calls simply by compressing the sides of your device.

It also contains the Titan M security chip, as well as the eSIM support that should accompany Android Q, depending on when the device is shipped. It should be noted that the physical SIM card tray is mounted laterally rather than on the base, as on the Pixel 3.

It is also likely that the 3a will ship with Android 9 Pie instead of Android Q. Both devices are Pixel devices, so you'll get full operating system upgrades for at least two years after purchase. than monthly security patches.

Display

3a pixel screen

As we have already mentioned, the pixel display 3a, smaller, should measure 5.6 inches. The Pixel 3a XL should have a slightly larger 6-inch screen.

It recently appeared that it was unlikely that the display would have a QHD + resolution. Google has opted for an FHD + option slightly lower than the resolution. Naturally, the FHD + format would make more sense on an affordable device, but the Pixel 3a and 3a XL will be equipped with AMOLED panels rather than a cheaper LCD.

The display should be nice and clear at 440ppi, although this is not quite in competition with the 523ppi display of the Pixel 3 XL, but it is by no means lousy. It is also interesting to note that the display will have no notch: rejoice!

Pixel pricing 3a and 3a XL

We have few rumors about Pixel 3a prices. The Pixel 3a was sold for 650 USD and 800 USD for the Pixel 3a XL.

The way this will result in US and European prices will be one of the most important factors in the quality of reception of devices at launch by the general public. Given the current exchange rate, we expected about $ 450 to $ 500 for the smaller 3a and $ 550 to $ 600 for the larger 3a XL.

What Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL do not include

Because of the pricing strategy and specifications, there will be a number of items that these two new Pixel devices simply will not understand. We spent a lot of time discussing what you can expect to be included. Here are some of the main omissions:

SD card support

Sorry, SD cards are no longer compatible with previous pixels. This unlimited storage in Google Photos will be useful.

5G connectivity

Very simple, there will be no pixel at least 5G to pixel 4. Pixels 3a and 3a XL will simply come with 4G LTE connectivity ready for use.

Android Q

No devices will ship with Android Q. Instead, we will see the Android pie stable and complete from the start. The Q update will be available at exactly the same time as pixels 3 and 3 XL for these cheaper devices.
