Police look for witnesses during a fatal accident involving two cars near Kawerau

Police are looking for witnesses to an accident that killed a man near Kawerau.

The accident involving two vehicles occurred on Highway 34, Kawerau Rd West, between Highways 30 and Kawerau, shortly after 5 pm Friday.

The driver of the northbound vehicle died on the scene and the driver of the other vehicle was slightly injured.

Police said in a statement tonight that the first indications were that the northbound vehicle was crossing the center line and colliding with the oncoming vehicle.

Both vehicles were badly damaged.

The police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident or who saw a white Nissan break leaving Kawerau around 5 pm.
