Net migration declines as more and more migrants get excited
bags

October 19 (BusinessDesk) – New
Zealand's annual net migration has continued to fall from record
last year, a growing number of migrants packing their
bags and leave.

The net migration was 62,733 the year
ended on September 30, compared with 63,288 in August and 70,986 per year
Earlier, Statistics New Zealand said. Arrivals of migrants
slid 2% to 128,982 while departures climbed 9.3
percent at 66,249, the highest number for a year in September
since 2013.

Annual departures of non-New Zealand citizens
climbed 18% to 31,768 while local departures increased
2.5 percent to 34,481.

Australia has traditionally been
the destination of choice for people leaving New
Zealand, however, only 4,572 non-Kiwis crossed the
pit. In contrast, 21,138 Kiwis decamped for Australia.

"The big factor that continues to weigh on migration is
departure of non-New Zealand citizens to areas other than
Australia, which remained high ", Westpac Banking Corp.
Senior economist Satish Ranchhod said.

"It's actually
an echo of the increase in arrivals of people in temporary
visas for work and students that we saw in previous years. we
wait until the departures remain high for some time ",
he said.

Ranchhod expects the slowdown in migration to persist
and a smaller population will result in lower demand. the
the kiwi dollar was largely unchanged after the publication,
recently traded at 65.31 US cents.

New Zealand is strong
inbound migration was a key element of overall economic growth.
growth in recent years, and the Treasury still sees it as a
downwind for the remainder of 2018. However, it also added stress
to infrastructure and was seen as a stifling wage growth
as more people compete for work.

Tourism has been another
board supporting the economy. Figures from today show
short-term arrivals increased by 2.1% to 258,155 in
September of the previous year. There were 3.1 million annual
visitors, up 3.1% from the previous year.

China
the largest increase in the number of tourists, up 11
percent, or 45,200, to 452,944 in September.
Australia remains the largest visitor pool at 1.47
million, up 0.5% from September 2017.
