Andrew Norris, director of the southern quarter of Fire and Emergency New Zealand, said the emergency services had been called to the accident on Humber Street, near Tyne and Itchen St, at 14:50.

Norris stated that the truck had cut the Humber St rail bridge, which has a height of 3.5 meters, rolled and overturned on its side.

No one was injured and fire crews helped police control traffic.

A police spokeswoman said the northbound lane was blocked. A crane was called to straighten the truck a few hours later.

This is not the first time that a truck has had a mishap with the bridge, with a carrier of cars undergoing a similar fate in 2014.

The rolling truck belongs to the company H & J Bruce Transport of Timaru, a witness on the scene said Stuff

A spokesman for H & J Bruce Transport understood that the driver had driven "[19659010] "It is quite common to see this bridge in Oamaru," she said.

Michael Voss, Highway Manager of Waitaki District Council, said the council had no worries about the height of the bridge.

"The bridge is well signaled and recognized as a heavy transport route, so the bridge is 3.5 meters high."

"We have no worries about this."

"No service was touched," she said
