A victim at the hospital, a gunman still at liberty, police say

The person who shot a 52-year-old man in Invercargill on Saturday is still at large, police said.

The victim of the shooting was operated last night and in a stable condition. He was found with a bullet wound on Kelvin St around 9:15 am on Saturday. Police spoke to the victim at the hospital last night.

Southern police said that they were still in the early stages of their investigation, and that the offender was not located

. But police said yesterday that there was no threat to public security after the shooting.

Police interviewed several witnesses of the incident.

Invercargill resident, Caitlin Barton, said Saturday that she was seeing a man lying on the trail.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.

They would particularly like to hear someone driving on Kelvin St, near Earnslaw Street, around 9 am on Saturdays.
