Google updates the Android Auto experience with crucial changes today. The company is updating two essential aspects of the Android Auto experience: communication and media.
Android Auto now supports RCS and MMS, which means that you can now chat with the Google Chat app on Android, also called the default email application. This means that you can get modern features such as group messaging with people who also have RCS applications on their phone. The updated messaging experience also introduces a new feature that allows you to view previews of messages as they arrive. It is supposed to allow users to follow more than one conversation at the same time. It is disabled by default for privacy reasons, of course.
As far as the media is concerned, Google mainly makes UX related changes. The album art views, for example, constitute a significant change that will allow you to quickly identify different things you can read and start reading without worry. Google has also changed the content of the voice search experience so it's much easier to view a categorized list of search results. As before, the experience is supported by apps such as Google Play Music, Spotify, Google Play Books, iHeartRadio and PocketCasts.
