Anne Hathaway has promised to give up alcohol over the next 18 years because she does not want to be intoxicated or have a hangover in front of her son.

The Hollywood star said she did not intend to drink until Jonathan, who is now two, left the house.

Miss Hathaway, 36, revealed on American television that she had made the decision after being drunk with rum while filming in Mauritius.

She told the Ellen DeGeneres Show: "I'm going to stop drinking while my son lives in my house, just because I do not really like the way I do it and it's coming to an age where he really needs me in the morning. "

"I did a race at school one day, where I dropped off at school, I was not driving, but I had a hangover and c & rsquo; Was enough for me. "

Miss Hathaway's son was with her in Mauritius last year, while she was shooting the Serenity thriller.

She did a rum tasting tour one night with co-star Matthew McConaughey, 49, and his Brazilian wife, Camila Alves, 36.

"I have no idea, they're both cool, I'm not, and I can not drink as much as they do," she said.

"So anyway, we drank all night and then I had to go to a meeting with Steven Knight, the director, the next day."

While talking to Knight about her character, she had such a hangover that she "stumbled" and had "an open eye," said Miss Hathaway. She went to talk in October.

Miss Hathaway, who starred in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006 and Les Misérables in 2012, is married to actor Adam Shulman.

She has already discussed her health choices, such as losing or gaining weight for roles. Even though she became vegan, she decided to eat only two years later, telling herself that she did not feel "good or healthy."
