Autistic, repulsed assistance dog from Auckland McDonald's

McDonald's was forced to apologize to an upset father and his 9-year-old son after being deported for bringing an assistance dog.

Shane Wheeler was asked to leave McDonald's in Mumbai after entering the restaurant with two children and his Nitro assistance dog, according to the NZME.

The dog assists Mr. Wheeler's son, Noah, who is autistic, and keeps him calm. He is wearing a gray "assistance" waistcoat, but that did not stop the staff from refusing to follow Mr. Wheeler's order.

Mr. Wheeler tried to explain the purpose of the dog to the worker, but the worker told him that pets were not allowed in the restaurant and that the family had to leave.

"It lasted a few minutes and I was so embarrassed and upset by everything I had to go out before screaming after the guy," Wheeler told NZME.

"This guy was adamant that Nitro was a pet and not a service dog."

Noah has a fairly restricted diet, so Mr. Wheeler took him to Mercer McDonalds instead and ordered to drive.

He complained to McDonalds, who admitted that the staff member had been deceived.

"It seems that one staff member has failed to oversee this case and we apologize for the incident," spokesman Simon Kenny told NZME.

"After receiving the complaint, the franchisee investigated with the restaurant staff and will follow up with the customer."
