Risi Pouri-Lane is about to debut at Black Ferns Sevens after being named to the team at the last Dubai 2018 tournament.

Motueka's teenage girl, who won the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in New Zealand, is in her first year in the contract workforce and Coach Allan Bunting was impressed by his progress.

"Risi is ready to leave, she was very successful with the victory at the Youth Olympic Games, she is under no pressure, now it is time to go out and enjoy the experience", said Bunting.

In 2017, the Black Ferns Sevens opened the circuit with a fifth place finish in Dubai, the only chance they missed the final of the five rounds of the World Series.

Currently leading the World Series standings after a first round win at Glendale Sevens, Bunting said the focus was on continuous improvement.

"The United States has been a good start for us, but when you win one, everyone looks at you more closely, so we have to be better this time," he added.

Meanwhile, the coach paid tribute to Michaela Blyde for her World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year award for the second year in a row, alongside nominees Sarah Goss and Portia Woodman.

"It's great to have three of our ladies performing regularly, not just last year, but for four or five years. They are doing very well and we are proud of the way they represent our country.
