  Police are looking for a man who assaulted a shop owner tonight at Rosedale Superette.

An owner of a supermarket was attacked and robbed at Owhata around 17h.

The police spokesman said the attacker was a man holding up a hammer who entered the Rosedale Superette.

The man used the hammer to assault the store owner several times on the body and head.

Police stated that the offender took a load of cigarettes before jumping on the counter and escaping.

The store owner quickly recovered from the attack and sued the man on the other side of Te Ngae Road, in front of the heavy traffic that led to Tennyson Drive .

Police described the offender as Maori, thin and skinny, wearing black jeans, a black hoodie under a black jacket and a black cap.

One witness believed that the man also has a slight lameness.

The owner of the minimarket needed medical attention at the hospital, but he may not have to stay overnight.
