This will be the biggest test for the new Wellington bus system today – with kids returning to school and driver strikes.

New schedules, routes and other changes will be under pressure in the region. Meanwhile, 50 bus drivers in the Hutt Valley will take part in industrial actions to protest illegal and dangerous changes.

The drivers will only work eight hours, instead of the 14 currently working. [19659002] Metlink believes that other services in the area could be too.

Greater Wellington regional councilor Daran Ponter says the strike will put more pressure on the network.

He says that he will not put pressure in the morning but by the end of the afternoon, that's what they anticipate.

However, Tranzit CEO Paul Snelgrove does not think this will have a significant impact on the system.

He believes they have the drivers they need and are committed to getting everyone where they need to go.
