Shane Claude Roberts was charged with the murder, in 2014, of a 10-month-old child.
The man accused of the murder of Karlos Stephens in 2014 can now be called Shane Claude Roberts.
Roberts, 59, appeared Friday in Rotorua High Court via audio link. He pleaded not guilty to a charge that he killed the 10 – month – old boy between November 29, 2014 and November 30, 2014.
Roberts was remanded in custody until March 15, 2019, when the case was reviewed and the trial was scheduled for November 4, 2019.

The first of three men charged with the double murder of Raymond and James Fleet was sentenced on Friday in the Rotorua High Court.
A number of supporters in the gallery called Roberts "to be strong".
Karlos died shortly after his admission to Rotorua Hospital on November 30, 2014, as a result of severe head injuries.
Senior Detective Sergeant Lindsay Pilbrow said that a recent medical opinion on the cause of Karlos' death had allowed the police to launch an investigation into a homicide.
"Since the case is currently before the court, the police are not able to comment further, but I would like to thank everyone who has participated in our investigations so far."
