A calf injury forced Black Cap drummer Martin Guptill to take part in the team's next match against Pakistan in the UAE.

Guptill was injured while he was preparing for a match against Plunket Shield with Auckland this week. He then proceeded to a scan showing that it would be up to six weeks to recover.

While the T20 series against Pakistan opens the tour in Abu Dhabi at the end of the month, closely followed by three internationals one day, the Black Caps selector, Gavin Larsen, said they Had no choice but to replace Guptill in the team.

"Unfortunately for Martin, it will take time for him to recover from this injury and, with a long summer ahead, we need to make sure we minimize the risk of him being repeated," he said.

"Gary Stead and I are going to look at the possible replacement options and we now have three places to fill the T20 and one day teams."

The Black Caps will face Pakistan in the first of three T20 international games on Oct. 31. Three international matches of one day and three tests will follow.

After securing a 2-1 T20 series win over Pakistan A during the week, New Zealand A will start its one – day series against Pakistan A in Dubai on Sunday.
