Eoin Morgan came out in a round that started with an awkward scramble involving his opposing captain, and ended with a clutter of world record six.
The 148 bullets of the English captain out of 71 face Afghanistan on Tuesday [Wednesday NZ time] contained 17 six and launched the home team at 397-6, the sixth highest total at a cricket world cup and the largest up here in this tournament.
Moeen Ali also secured a team record for an international day. He cleared the border four times out of a total of 31 undefeated balls, 31, to improve England's mark and reach a world record of 25 six.
The group match between the top and bottom ranked teams was hardly a competition. Afghanistan finished 247-8 to retreat for a fifth straight defeat.

England has climbed to the top of the standings with eight points, ahead of Australia 's reigning champion, at net rate. Afghanistan also achieved a positive result: it beat its total of 232 victories against Sri Lanka in Dunedin four years ago, reaching its highest level at a World Cup.

He tried to do better on the next ball, but was caught unawares, giving Gulbadin a third wicket and a total of 3-68 on 10 points – the best return from Afghanistan.
Morgan dominated the partnership with 189-year-old Joe Root, who was 189 years old. His skipper was 45 when his skipper arrived in the fold.
The face-off mistakes cost Afghanistan a lot, nothing more than Morgan's catch when he was 28 years old. He pulled out a ball from Rashid Khan until midwicket, where Dawlat Zadran put a hand on the ball before letting it slip to the limit.

Morgan hit two more six points and continued to swing.
He pulled out 22 against Rashid and usually dismantled Afghanistan 's best bowler, who conceded the worst statistics in his history at a World Cup match at 9-0-110-0.
