The Black Caps insist they are not motivated by trying to end a South African Cricket World Cup when they meet the Proteas at Edgbaston.

In a tournament where they made the most of a light start, beating Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and sharing points of a washout with India, New Zealand are more eager to concentrate on their own game and go up a gear over the back half of the tournament. That starts against the Proteas at 9pm Wednesday (NZT).

"Kiwi swing bowling ace Trent Boult told reporters in response to a question about virtually eliminating South Africa who hav … if they want to make the playoffs.

"It's a chance for us to play and we can bring the game back to life in a big way.

"There's always been exciting games between New Zealand and South Africa over the past World Cups. The semifinal at Eden Park (where New Zealand won by four wickets in 2015) was one of the greatest games that the Kiwis have played."

New Zealand are well-placed to make the semifinals. They have remained unbeatable on the back of steady battling, and have bowled down the opposition three times.

Surprisingly, Boult has picked up only three wickets in three games, but the 29-year-old said he was not worried about his form as long as he and his fellow bowlers continued to restrict the opposition to low scores.

"We've got 30 wickets … Probably that's the only main thing I'm worried about," Boult said.

"For me a bowler, I'm sure I want to lead the bowling attack as best as I can .. If we can do the things we do well we know that works well, put some early on and get some wickets , then hopefully they feel that pressure a little bit more.

"I think we have been going where we are, and we've got a lot of pressure on the team. it's a unit and it's all down to chase, then I'll be happy. "
