EA Appoints James Stevenson-Wallace, Chief Energy Officer of MBIE, as New Chief Executive Officer

James Stevenson-Wallace is General Manager of Energy and Resource Markets at the Ministry of Commerce, Innovation and Employment. He is expected to take up his new position in September

. Chairman of the Authority, Brent Layton, said Stevenson-Wallace would join the organization at a stimulating and challenging time.

"James is well positioned to lead the organization through this, bringing with him both rich experience and knowledge of New Zealand's energy sector and a legacy of successful senior executives in regulatory environments," said Mr. Layton

Stevenson-Wallace is one of seven general directors of the Building, Resources and Markets Division, whose unit oversees all aspects of energy and resource policy, including mining and oil and gas exploration.

He joined MBIE in early 2014 and was previously Director of Fisheries Management in the Ministry of Primary Industries, having previously held consulting positions in the private sector and Holds a Master's degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Victoria.

Stevenson-Wallace replaces Carl Hansen who has headed the Administration since its inception at the University of Department of the Departmental Inquiry 2009
