Police say that they are grateful to the community and rescuers after recovering the body of the Matthew Wallis helicopter pilot from Lake Wanaka.

Matt Wallis was an avid outdoorsman and well-known tourist.

Helicopters prepare to take Matt Wallis, a pilot who died in an accident at Lake Wanaka last week, for a final tour at his funeral.
The family has requested confidentiality and the media are excluded from reporting within the service.
After service, the Wallis family will take their body to the mountains to visit some of their favorite places.
His three brothers will fly three of the five helicopters that will make the flight.
The body of Wallis was located inside the wreckage of the helicopter, at a depth of 47 meters on the flat bottom of the lake, by the National Police Brigade and the Navy .
He was the third of four brothers, born at five years of age, to determined and widely respected parents.
Their father, Sir Tim Wallis, is best known as a pioneer of the New Zealand deer recovery industry and founder of the Warbirds during the Wanaka Air Show. Now retired, he was also a deer farmer and known for developing high quality genetics and exports of velvet, wood and pizzle to Asia.
