The New Zealand transport agency remains silent on the extent of driver's license fraud that is currently being investigated by the police and computer forensics specialists.
Police are investigating driving license fraud at the NZ Transport Agency, which recently fired a contractor after concerns were voiced.
The agency confirmed that there was an alleged case of internal fraud related to a "limited" number of driver's licenses and vehicle registries.
"At the end of November, our internal processes revealed serious concerns about the behavior and actions of a contractor, whose employment was terminated within 24 hours of the onset of these concerns" , the agency said in a written statement.
The NZTA called for external assistance for a forensic investigation to determine the extent of the alleged fraud, but declined to comment further while she was working with the police to establish all the facts.

In February, NZTA announced a series of changes it had made as a result of reports that driver's licenses were obtained through bribery or bribery.

Previous driving license fraud cases have forced hundreds of motorists to return new licenses, but the NZTA has indicated that the current fraud investigation is limited to a limited number of licenses.
The latest revelations about fraud come at a bad time for the agency, which is already undergoing two reviews regarding its failure to comply with transport safety regulations.
Law firm Meredith Connell stepped in to oversee the NZTA's compliance work, leading to more and more suspension of the mandate of fitness certifiers and threats to close 20 trucking companies.
Transportation Minister Phil Twyford has expressed concern about the long-standing systemic problems of the agency and has also commissioned the MOT to review its work.
